I heard a great story on the radio this afternoon (see link below) Six Word Memoir is a website that asks the public to sum up their life in just 6 words. Some of the entries are heartbreaking and some are hilarious. I think this would be a great way to get to know a new bunch of people. I would like to lead a group in not only summing up our whole life but various aspects of life, such as childhood, school, career path, profession, parenting etc. I think distilling oneself into such a limited form would be very intriguing.

All these gigabytes and megawhos can be a little daunting to someone at first but with a little basic fundamental knowledge of computers you'll be able to know how it all works together. If you've never used a computer or you always wanted to know how yours works this will be a nice chat.

What is commonly referred to as "abstract" painting, I believe, can actually be divided into two distinct categories: abstract and non-representational. Whereas abstraction deals with forms or images derived from another source, non-representation deals with the structure and materiality of the painting. Obviously, there is tremendous grey area between these two poles, which is what I'd like to hash out in discussion. In this class, I would begin with a presentation of relevant works from historical and contemporary painting. Discussion would be encouraged during the presentation and the remaining time would be devoted entirely to discussion. My idea for this class stems from the ideas presented by Ayn Rand in her book, "Introduction to Objectivist Epistemology" which explores the relationship between language, definitions, and concept formation.

I'd like to start a class on filmmaking with Shawn Schlener or learn from him as a student. We were classmates and both have the same passion for movies. To watch the evolution of a story from script to screen is incredible. Discussing the history, techniques, and little things that go unnoticed would be very interesting. Not only would the discussion be fun, but going out and creating our own stories, making our own films to view would enhance the experience. Through this we could teach people different camera angles, uploading process, editing, special effects, and everything in between. Even the process of writing a script, auditions from actors, and possible entry into some of our favorite film festivals. The work could be uploaded to YouTube as well to reach out to those around the world. We were both taught by Erik Jacobson, a wonderful professor of cinema. He is very passionate about the art and inspires us. We look up to him and he would be a wonderful speaker to better explain the art of sound and motion. The only limitation would be our imagination.
Students: we encourage students to bring any/all of the following supplies (but if you cannot you are still invited to participate): dvds or clips from your favorite movies, notebook to take notes, video camera
